History of CHADD of Alachua County

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) is a national non-profit organization founded in 1987 in response to the frustration and sense of isolation experienced by parents and their children with AD/HD.

Individuals and families dealing with ADHD turn to CHADD, the national organization representing individuals with ADHD, for education, advocacy and support.

Drs. Bordini and Clifton helped establish the CHADD of Alachua County chapter with Dr. Clifton serving as the first Chapter president and Dr. Bordini as the first chapter treasurer. CPANCF is proud to have donated funds for postage, a chapter library, and has donated paid staff time for staff who serve as chapter officers and help with meeting arrangements, a sattelite teleconference, in-service training for Alachua County teachers, notifications and other chapter activities.  The Chapter went inactive in approximately 2005.

The chapter then re-established as the Gainesville Satellite of CHADD, resuming meetings in the Fall of 2007.  Meetings have been generally held at the offices of Sarkis Family Psychiatry since that time.

CHADD has Six Primary Objectives:

* To maintain a support network for parents and caregivers who have children with AD/HD and for adults with AD/HD;

* To provide a forum for continuing education on AD/HD for parents, professionals and adults;

* To be a community resource and disseminate evidence-based information about AD/HD to parents, educators, professionals and the media;

* To promote ongoing research;

* To make the best educational experiences available to children with AD/HD so that their specific difficulties will be recognized and appropriately managed within educational settings; and

* To promote and influence legislative activities at the national, state and local levels
