Benjamin R. Phalin, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist
Neuropsychologist, Benjamin Phalin, Ph.D. complements our professional staff. He received his graduate training in neuropsychology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, with further neuropsychological training during his internship at the James A. Haley Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tampa, and neuropsychological residency training at Clinical Psychology Associates of North Central Florida in Gainesville and Ocala.
Dr. Phalin's experience and training have involved the assessment of a wide variety of neuropsychological issues including those related to memory difficulties, attention and learning difficulties, and other cognitive complaints. He has a particular interest in traumatic brain injury and cognitive difficulties associated with concussion. His doctoral research investigated sports concussions in college athletes.
Dr. Benjamin Phalin's training and experiences have included psychological evaluation of a wide range of emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety, and other adjustment-related issues. His graduate training included rotations at both Shands Hospital in Gainesville and at the VA Medical Center in Tampa. In these settings Dr. Phalin completed neuropsychological evaluations with individuals ranging from adolescent to geriatric presenting with known or suspected neurological conditions of varying severity. He garnered experience with criminal forensic evaluations At North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center and with Clinical Psychology Associates of North Central Florida.
During his residency, he has gained further experience with the evaluation of cognitive function and recovery following traumatic brain injury and in assessing individuals involved in civil and personal injury litigation, Worker's Compensation and Vocational Rehabilitation. Dr. Phalin also has interest in presurgical and postsurgical neuropsychological assessments where Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is used for movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease and Essential Tremor.
Dr. Phalin's teaching experience involves serving as an adjunct faculty member at St. Leo's University since 2005.
Dr. Phalin's therapeutic orientation generally involves a flexible cognitive-behavioral approach with some short-term psychodynamic applications where appropriate.
