Amanda Ross, M.A. joins us as a University of Akron intern for the 2011-2012 term.  Ms. Ross has more than two years of experience with out office as she has previously served administering and scoring psychological and neuropsychological tests for our offices in 2004, 2005, and 2007.  She has since garnered a wealth of research and counseling experience and we are proud to have her her back as an intern under the supervision of Dr. Bordini and Dr. Phalin.    

Her psychotherapy focus involves treatment of anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, PTSD, ADHD, Asperger's Disorder, college and career counseling, sleep disorders,  body image concerns, aging concerns, and social anxiety disorder.

Clinical and counseling experience has been gained in a variety of settings.  Her past experience with our office as a psychological assistant/psycometrician involved conducting  and scoring psychological and neuropsychological tests in children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. This included IQ testing, dementia batteries, the Halstead-Reitan Battery, tests for learning disability, testing for ADHD, and administration and scoring of memory and personality tests.

Training and graduate studies at the University of Akron included providing services for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment and their caregivers, providing personal, academic and vocational counseling services, administering and interpreting psychological assessments, and co-facilitating group therapy.

Community service included having serving the North Central Florida community as a chapter coordinator for Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) of Alachua County,  being a member of the Human Rights Campaign, serving as a volunteer at the Shands Hospital, Animals Heal Hearts Program,  serving as a volunteer for the University of Florida Arts in Medicine Program, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, volunteer service for the Shands Hospital, University of Florida Arts in Medicine Program Mental Health program, and also service as a volunteer for the Shands Hospital, University of Florida Arts in Medicine Program Pediatric Dialysis program.

Amanda Ross M.A. has garnered organizational leadership experience at the University and national levels.  She has served as an American Psychological Association Representative for the 2010 Eldercare Workforce Alliance Advocacy Day, she has served as a committee member for the American Psychological Association, John Holland Award for Outstanding Achievement in Career and Personality Research,  Senator for the University of Akron Graduate Student Government College of Arts and Sciences, Philanthropy co-chair for the University of Florida Psi Chi/Psychology Club, Vice President of Diversity Dialogues, and served as a Treasurer and President of the Counseling Psychology Graduate Student Organization.

Honors and Awards include induction into national honor socieites, earning the the National Merit Hispanic Scholar Award, making the University of Florida Honor Roll, recognition by the University of Akron Women in Higher Education, achieving the University of Akron Department of Psychology Diversity Award, and earning a Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, Dalmas A. Taylor Memorial Minority Summer Policy Fellowship, as well as an American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship.

Amanda Ross, M.A. is a member of the Gerontological Society of America,  a student member of the American Psychological Assocation Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues Division, Society of Counseling Psychology Division, and  a member of the Adult Development and Aging Division.  She is a member of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students and member of the Human Rights Campaign

Amanda Ross, M.A. has published articles in a number of peer reviewed journals. Publication topics include late-life insomnia, as well as sleep impact on cognitive and executive functioning. She has apresented on a variety of psychological topics such as gay and lesbian issues in older adults, gender differences in insomnia, autism and developmental disabilities, and use of video modeling in initiating social interactions.

In addition to research interests reflected in her publications, Ms. Ross has been involved in research on the relationship of ageism on assignment of blame in car accidents, use of functional analysis and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) in children with developmental disabilities, and was a research assitant in the Florida Project on Newlywed Marriage and Adult Development  http://www.relationshipscience.net.
